Meet Ricardo, age 4.

We welcomed 4 year old Ricardo Javier to the Acorn Childcare Center in January. Ricardo lives with only his mom who works as a nurse in an educational center. After his first day at the Center, he was very excited to return to play with his classmates again!  Ricardo immediately took to the other children having no trouble with sharing and supporting the others. Ricardo is loving, thoughtful, sociable, collaborative and understanding when he needs to share toys.

Ricardo has three favorite areas in Center. In our theater area, he loves dressing up as Spider-Man, playing and acting as a great hero. In the play area, he loves to slide and play in the ball pit. He frequently uses the toy phone to pretend to call his mom and other family members. Ricardo also loves being in the dining room, where students are given breakfast, a healthy snack and a main meal each day. Ricardo regularly requests additional servings at each meal, saying “I liked the food! Can you give me more, please?”

With your generosity Ricardo is thriving at the Center, from  nutrition to social interaction and all the academic learning in between! Thank you for supporting our work to provide a stimulating early education, nutritious meals and parenting support in a caring environment to families who need it most.

The fact that the Acorn Childcare Centre is able to offer such crucial, life-changing support to children and families living in extreme poverty, is thanks to the work and the generosity of many people, doing and giving what they can to help.
