MEET AMBALY

Ambaly, age 4, moved to Quetzaltenango two months ago with her maternal grandmother. Ambaly’s mother abandoned her and her siblings when she was just 4 months old. Ambaly’s grandmother has limited income and was only able to care for Ambaly but was able to arrange for the older siblings to live with their paternal grandparents in Retalhuleu, about a hour south. When grandma learned that Ambaly’s cousin Samantha has been attending the Acorn Childcare Center for the past three years, she enrolled Ambaly, too.

Ambaly quickly adapted to the routine and many activities. She feels happy and safe with Samantha and they sit together at meal times. Ambaly enjoys playing with and hugging the dolls and stuffed animals, playing in the ball pool, and preparing food in the toy kitchen. Although she is camera-shy, she especially loves the Art area’s watercolors, crayons, modeling clay and tissue paper decorating.

Grandma shared that having Ambaly at the Center has been a great help, noting how well she eats and shares with other children. Before coming to the Center, Ambaly would only eat bread and coffee. Now she eats fruit, vegetables and a variety of atoles (filling drinks made from milk and corn) provided during meal times at the Center, which has been significant for improving her growth and development.

Because of your generosity, the Acorn Childcare Center is able to give young students like Ambaly a safe caring environment and a better start to their education. The fact that the Acorn Childcare Center is able to offer such crucial, life-changing support to children and families living in extreme poverty, is thanks to the work and the generosity of many people, doing and giving what they can to help. Every contribution matters, and together all these efforts make a huge difference. Thank you!

EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS

Every donation helps ensure that we can continue transforming the lives of families facing extreme poverty.

When you make your donation recurring, you’ll join our Helping Hands Sustainer Circle, a community of extraordinary humans working together to provide monthly support for the children and families at the Acorn Childcare Center. As a member, your monthly commitment provides a reliable and sustainable source of funds we can use to plan programs, create budgets and expand services. For example, your monthly commitment of $25 could provide the children with safe drinking water each month while $50 could provide books and art supplies for the month.

Maya Childcare Inc is run entirely by volunteers, thus 100% of your donation goes directly to the Acorn Childcare Center.
