FAMILY SUPPORT

Parents and family form a child’s first relationships. They are a child’s first teachers and become role models with regards to how to act and how to experience the world around them. Children thrive when parents are able to actively promote their positive growth and development, and parents thrive when they have a caring community of support around them.

While there is no cost for parents of children enrolled in the Acorn Childcare Center, parents do contribute what they can, such as beans, rice, pasta and other basic items and they are required to volunteer throughout the school year. In the classroom, our knowledgeable teachers model appropriate ways to manage children. In the kitchen, our talented cook shares how she prepares healthy food and educates parents about the nutritional needs of children.

Parents also attend workshops throughout the school year focusing on parenting skills and child development and allowing them learn from one another and talk about their experiences and feelings in a safe, supportive environment. Parents and staff work together to plan celebrations at the Center which helps build a sense of community and belonging for parents. They are happy to know that they are doing what they can to provide for their children and are a vital part of ensuring that their needs are met at school and home.
